Introduction
This article is structured around four distinct yet interrelated tracks. The first presents an exposition conceived as both a timeline and an evolutionary mapping of the research project Gestaltology (2020–2023, funded by the Swedish Arts Grants Committee). This trajectory culminated in the exhibition Entangled Threads of Visual Arcana - GESTALTOLOGY ENCODED, hosted at the Visualiseringscenter in Norrköping in 2023.
The exposition poses specific challenges of legibility and navigation, contingent upon the screen on which it is viewed. At a distant scale, the entirety of the project becomes visible, but only at the expense of rendering the details unreadable. Conversely, at a closer scale, viewers can trace the project’s development by navigating its spatial arrangement and sequential logic. This format reflects a central paradox of creative practice: while immersed in the process, the path forward is often obscured and uncertain, yet retrospectively the trajectory appears to unfold according to an almost predetermined logic. This conceptual insight guided the structural design of the exposition.
The second track emerges as pop-up windows within the exposition, with the aim of contextualizing the project within the realm of scientific and artistic research, and the references used are found here.
The third track offers a subjective, artistic reflection, inviting a deeper insight of the creative process. In a parallel gesture, the fourth track serves as a process documentation, displaying a set of images that trace the practical and material contours of Gestaltology’s development.
Through the four tracks presented here, the article provide multiple perspectives on Gestaltology, thereby illuminating both the project’s conceptual framework and its methodological processes.
