Morass explores the complexities of home, belonging, and environments that are synchronically close and distant. The work comprises three six-minute films, each vignette structured is through a layered soundscape and visual field. Across these works, my presence is articulated through three recurring protagonists: the Articulate Detective, Maroonage/Marronage (the Fugitive); the Evaluative Contributor (the Tourist); and the Vigilant Observer (the Witness). An accompanying essay further explores the significance of the morass within the ecologies of the Parish of Westmoreland, Jamaica, and in relation to my ancestry.
