WALKING AS PRACTICE/WAP is a process-based art residency, where we delve into each others’ knowledges and things we encounter together on Birch island/Björkö. Together we explore proximity through artistic expressions in the field of walking practices. Each year has its own theme/focus.
Interventions weave across different registers of time and site. The focus is on how walking is interlocked in our practices. Fieldworks and seminars are jointly done to locate and entangle structures, narratives and forces. We practiced a a safe and friendly attitude as part of the art scene we share.
The location for WAP during the three years was BKN in the Northern Stockholm Archipelago where the forest meets the sea. A quite rural setting. BKN fosters a peer-based environment: “thinking together, learning together” - a resource and semi public forum to explore and experiment. Jointly, we form a transformative, dynamic space for art that engages with life and nature towards critical and poetic explorations, influenced by the immediate surroundings; the forest, lakes, sea and people living in the rural area.
WAP23 curated by Berg Duo a constallation with Ami Skånberg and Anna Viola Hallberg for WAP24 they invited John Schuerman and Antonia Aitken as co-curators. WAP25 was a transformative year and also the first off island walks for this we formed WAPC a coallition of interchanging artist who support each others practices as well as do works together. WAP25 April Edition taped in to the them of Supermarket Art Fair 2025 - Passion with Johen Schuerman as co-curator. For the June Edition it became Walking with Passion - Embodied thinking brought together by Anna Viola Hallberg. Later the summer of 2025 WAPC became part of WALC Together an initiative supported by a European Union grant.
