"Alors que nous traversons un moment planétaire si particulier, qui occupe nos pensées et, se partage en écrans depuis toutes les lèvres, la Villa Kujoyama n’a pas été épargnée. Nos premiers lauréats et lauréates de cette année ont fait le choix commun – après de nombreux échanges – de retourner près de leurs proches. La distance physique Japon – Europe et la fermeture progressive des frontières avaient des interférences trop grandes et trop quotidiennes sur les conditions de travail habituelles de la Villa pour rendre possible une réflexion artistique.
Et pourtant avec un accompagnement repensé et continu, nous sommes aujourd'hui en mesure de vous proposer un Open Studios! Comment tout cela est rendu possible ? La technologie aide c'est certain, mais ce sont, avant tout, le soin et l'intensité de la rencontre, le dialogue ininterrompu et l'envie indéfectible de continuer à travailler, ensemble, qui ont été les maîtres mots, non seulement de ces deux mois passés à la Villa Kujoyama, mais aussi de ces dernières semaines, malgré l'éloignement.
La cohérence et la complicité de cette première « promo » 2020, la générosité des lauréat.es, la sensibilité artistique en curiosité et ébullition au contact de la culture japonaise, ces moments précieux de partage quotidiens donnent la tonalité de ce premier Open Studios de l’année.
Vous y découvrirez une singularité des regards et des sujets abordés et surtout la vive qualité artistique de ces artistes et créateur.rices que nous avons hâte de revoir peupler les couloirs de la Villa Kujoyama. Merci à elleux.

今、地球上に生きる私達はとても特殊な時を過ごしています。ヴィラ九条山でも例に漏れず、現状について様々な考察をし、画面を通して語り合う日々が続いています。たくさんの話し合いの後、今年最初のレジデント達はそれぞれの親しい人のもとに帰ることを決意しました。日本とヨーロッパの物理的な距離や国境の閉鎖は日常の中であまりに重大すぎ、周知の条件下では、芸術的な試行錯誤を進めることが困難になると考えたからです。
しかし、状況に適応しつつレジデントに寄り添い続けることで、ここにオープン・スタジオを皆様にご覧いただけることを大変嬉しく思います。一体どういったものなのでしょうか。テクノロジーがこのイベントに寄与していることは確かですが、何よりもまず、心配りや意義のある出会い、途切れることない対話、そして共に活動し続けたいという衰えることのない欲求があります。これらはヴィラ九条山で過ごした２ヶ月の間だけでなく離れていたこの数週間でも、一貫して大切なキーワードでありました。
今年最初のオープン・スタジオを印象づけるのは、レジデント達のまとまりや結託、寛大さ、日本文化に対する好奇心に裏付けられた芸術的感受性とそこから生まれる興奮、日常的に共有された貴重な時間だと言えるでしょう。
そしてここでお見せしたいのは、他にない視点と扱われているテーマ、特にアーティストやクリエーターたちの高い芸術的クオリティーです。ヴィラ九条山の廊下が以前のように人で溢れるのを見るのが楽しみでなりません。
レジデント、彼らのプロジェクトに関わって下さった方、普段よりお世話になっている方を含め、見に来てくださった方皆様にこの場を借りて心からお礼申し上げます。
このような状況ですが、どうかご自愛ください。京都にあるスタジオへの今回の訪問が、皆様のお気に召すことを祈って。

"We are all, all over the planet, going through a unique situation, which filters all our thoughts and which confusingly enmeshes our distanced bodies, screens and words; so is the Villa Kujoyama. Our first laureates of 2020 decided, a month ago, with one voice up and many thoughts collectively shared, to fly back to get closer to their beloved ones. Physical distance between Japan and Europe, with borders in the closing, increasingly interfered with their daily life, artistic researches and the residency moments and working conditions we usually know here.
Nevertheless, with a rethought follow-up, considering the ongoing situation and in resonance with the way our artists work, in progress, we are able, and happy, to propose you today an Open Studios! How come? Of course, technology helps. But above all, it is the result of the care and the intensity of the exchanges, the dialogue that never stopped and the unfailing desire of pursuing working, together, side by side, during the two months residency at Villa Kujoyama but also in the past weeks, remotely.
The coherence and the great connivance of this first 2020 artists, combined with their generosity, their artistic sensitivity sparkling and boiling of curiosity when getting closer and closer to Japanese culture, all the precious times of new encounters and exchanges, day after day, are interwoven here to make this first Open Studios of the year happen.
You are more than welcome to enter and feel the singularity of views, the multiplicity of aspects, and the high-quality researches' facets of all the projects they are inviting you through.
