Copyright Concerns

The SAR Position on copyright for the creator of Expositions and other uploaded material at the RC:

  1. In accordance with the Bern Convention on intellectual property rights (copyright), the author may not object to other persons using her/his content contained in the site in such a manner that new and independent works are created. The copyright in such new and independent work is not subject to the copyright in the content that has been used.
  2. In accordance with the Bern Convention on intellectual property rights (copyright), all issued content may be quoted, in accordance with proper usage and to the extent necessary to achieve the desired purpose.
  3. Outside of what is in accordance with the Bern Convention on intellectual property rights (copyright), the material presented on the Research Catalogue (RC) cannot be copied or re-used without the author’s prior approval.
  4. Within some portals at the RC other regulations on copyright may be in place, such as one of the Creative Common Licenses.

Each author may also decide a less restrictive use of her/his material, and will in that case have to state this in the display on the RC.
