Reading BOK 1 and reflecting and writing about it in the context of my research.

Understanding and describing the central imaginary significations for my context. But I still require practice understanding and identifying them and relating them to aspects of my research inquiry. 

 1st Coach meeting - Discussed steps for understanding the research process and questions to consider throughout the process.

-Public arts practices, events, or engagements in Phuket

 

What are you working on now, due to this week's research/experiments?

-Reviewing the central imaginary significations for Phuket, updating and readdressing how they inform my inquiry.

-Cataloguing Arts and Festivals in Thailand - Started a list by finding sources and examples List in progress here ------->  https://www.researchcatalogue.net/view/1737228/1738104/16/7 

Listing festivals and events helped me understand what is happening or what has happened around Phuket in the last few years. It assisted me in seeing which events I might be able to work with. It also helped me in playing around with the capabilities of the Research Catalogue as an archival/presentational method for my project work.

-Documenting a space in more detail. Understanding Phuket's art scene in more detail.

-Exploring and investigating a public space - Pahlai Pier.

What are you working on now, due to this week's research/experiments?

I took a reflective walk through one of the spaces I would like to work on and wrote down different notes, ideas, and connections I experienced while traveling through the space. I thought about others experiencing the space as a moving performance - like promenade theatre. Walking through the space made me think about "change" and the different forces that go into change.

-Using Pop Up Phuket open mic as a strategy.

 -My writing: rewriting story ideas after sharing. Developing the fantasy more in my writing - when is it used and why? Playing around with how we transform realism into speculation. 

-As a director/facilitator: Contacted and coordinated with other artists about a group workshop. Proposed a question for the group to reflect on/consider and respond to. Organized a time and location to meet all together and lead a story exchange.

-It's a Tuesday and what are we doing? Making sure to take practical and active steps toward building a research project. What have you been doing and what steps are needed to get to what is next?

-Finesse the form of the story-share more. Give it a more formal structure to allow its repeatability. Create a story-share script that can be reused and edited when necessary.  Prompt the group with another question and request to meet in 2 weeks- if not sooner on their own.

-Contacting Amitha Amrada (Thai author/critic currently active in sharing the current art scenes in Thailand.) to discuss the arts scene in other regions of Thailand (Phuket) and ethical or appropriate choices I should be aware of as a foreigner practicing art in public space. (Sent messages through facebook and Linkin and did not receive a reply)

 

-Work on postcard designs with different ways to display stories through the different spectra of critical tourism devised by Dobriakov. (see examples here)

 

-Contact Hiba Masad and set up an online chat to discuss methods to engage local participants. 

 

-Planning a new set of tours for one location. 

 

-Restating my motivations for the project and focusing on reproducible methods instead of possible outcomes or aims.
