The Face Between Us:
The Face Between Us approaches and reimagines the mythical figure of Medusa by speculating on the question of existing as a subject desperate to be
understood, while knowing that her innermost self, her ‘inside’ - who she really is - can never be entirely shared. She tries to eliminate her borders, her outside;
scratching her skin until she becomes a raw, naked human nervous system. Animation as a medium and the fluidity of the paint-on-glass technique offer a possibility to work with both reality and speculation, and a glimpse into the liminal space between inside and outside.
Is Medusa the demonised figure of the myth, or is she also a mirror to reflect and make visible the power of the demeaning gaze?
After all, we are all Others in the eyes of Others.
