ARTikulationen interweaves in-depth presentations of very recent artistic research and findings, a festival character, and a mini-symposium – this year on matters of interdisciplinarity and interconnectedness of research practices with the (sound) environment, nature, and other living beings („Researching Across“). The mini-symposium combines a keynote by composer Liza Lim, and a guest lecture by guitarist-researcher Stefan Östersjö, with a panel discussion Researching Across, which is moderated by musicologist Christa Brüstle and organised in collaboration with ORF musikprotokoll, featuring composers Sandeep Bhagwati, Liza Lim, and Karen Power. Located at the Theater im Palais (TiP) of the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (KUG), ARTikulationen is co-funded by the State of Styria - Dep. 12 Economy, Tourism, Science and Research. It is directed by Deniz Peters, co-directed and produced by Katharina Neges and Sara Kebe Čerpes, and organised by the Doctoral School for Artistic Research (KWDS).

The event is framed by an opening session including a performance by Melody Chua (and co-performer Chi Him Chick) and a closing/farewell session with degree and best practice award announcements. Over the course of 4 days you can hear, see, and discuss artistic research presentations from a large variety of fields ranging from current acoustic, electroacoustic, and computer composition, historically informed and contemporary performance, to social sculpture. There will be four Rigorosa (final doctoral presentations) by Janhavi Dhamankar, Susanne Scholz, Jessica Kaiser and Raimund Vogtenhuber, and current research presentations by doctoral candidates Raphael Fusco and Faidra Chafta Douka. The festival character appears not only by way of examples from practice within the presentations, but also in intermezzi (short live and filmed research performances) by doctoral candidates Po-Yu WangAdela Liculescu, Zsófia Faragó, Helena Sorokina, Marlene Heiß, Zsombor Sidoo, Deok-Vin LeeFaidra Chafta Douka, and Hugo Reis. The contributions are in English except where indicated by the German title and notes. Click here for the programme overview.
