a poem about a blue parrot whirling around his own blueness 

 

 

at this point i start to focus more on movement, rather than the found objects themselves 

the hoola hoop, the whirlabout, whirlings from the past

 

i visited a children's toy shop in utrecht and bought 2 whirl-abouts

the following maquette and experiment was inspired by the sound made by these toys. the more you press the stick, the louder the sound grows. Whilst pressing and whirling we played one of my favourite word games - the association game. As the game developed, the sound grew in volume, and so the louder we had to shout our words. often, the words one had to shout were simple, almost comically simple to shout so loud

other times the words gained weight due to the action of shouting, a dramaturgy developed, accents formed

we began with the word "sky" and here are some fragments of where we ended up:
