Welcome

Mission and Vision of mdw's Artistic Research Center (ARC)

The name of mdw’s Artistic Research Center, abbreviated as ARC, evokes a bridge connecting art and science, extending an open space for mutual inspiration. It leads to the production of new knowledge and serves as an independent contribution towards developing and opening up the arts. It assumes a diversity of forms of knowledge and understanding.

Knowledge about specific research questions is generated within the arts, the corresponding artistic research gets contextualized, and the resulting knowledge gain is documented and communicated. Depending on the contents of a project, various aspects play an important role here, in different weights: The development of artistic practices and their critical and systematic reflection, inter-/transdisciplinarity, collaborative, plurimediality, diversity of knowledge forms, and social relevance.

Responsibilities of ARC

The main responsibilities of the Artistic Research Center (ARC) are providing courses and organisation for the artistic doctorate program, providing the organisational framework for the study program Contemporary Arts Practice ( (CAP – Master), contributing to the contents of artistic and artistic-research-related master’s and diploma studies, support for artistic research in third-party projects and own research projects, meta-artistic research, aggregation of knowledge and expertise in artistic research, and establishing a platform for networking and publication on the Research Catalogue.
