Masterstudents from all disciplines will work together in this years ‘Winterschool’ at Fontys Academy of the Arts, creating your own Artistic Learning Space. This space is not just a physical location, it should be a dynamic environment where creativity, collaboration, and learning thrive. How does such a space look like? Smells like? Feels like? Inspired by concepts like the idea of the Third Place (Oldenburg, 1991), the Relational Space (Leibnitz, 1675) or the Pedagogical Space (Vigil, 2022), your challenge is to design a space that fosters meaningful interactions and innovative ideas for FAA.

Aim to Inspire

Our aim for the two days is first to create opportunities to see, hear, feel, inspire you to think artistically and critically about the spaces you inhabit and with this insights create as a group an idea that will go further than the obvious first thoughts you might have. We do this in co-creating between all the disciplines. By the end of these two days, you will have designed a unique Artistic Learning Space as a work of art reflecting your vision.

Friday January 10       Experiences to Guide You

On Friday, we will provide you with a series of experiences, designed to inspire and guide you in creating your Artistic Learning Space. These experiences are meant to help you hear, feel, see... the surroundings. These experiences will help you reflect and gather insights for your design process. You’ll get a series of workshops, activities and a lecture to gather inspiration and ideas for your Artistic Learning Space. Enhance your ability to observe and interpret the world around you, paying attention to details that can inform your design. Begin documenting your observations, ideas, and reflections. This will be a valuable resource as you continue to develop your space over these couple of days.

As you go through the activities, reflect on the following question:

How can you create a space that not only supports your own artistic and learning goals but also fosters a sense of community and collaboration among others?

Saturday January 11                                  Create the Artistic Learning Space

On Saturday, you will take the experiences and insights from Friday and dive deeper into the design process. Your task is to create an Artistic Learning Space that is not only functional but also a work of art in itself.  Start by bringing something from Friday that resonated with you. It could be a particular observation, a sensory detail, a collaborative idea, or a moment of inspiration. Use this as a starting point to shape your Artistic Learning Space. The focus will be on co-creation, where each group member contributes equally to the design and development process.

At the end of the day, each group will upload their work to the Research Catalogue. This platform will allow you to document and share your Artistic Learning Space with a wider audience. Be sure to include detailed descriptions, images, and any other relevant materials that showcase your creative process and the final outcome.
