Based on the literature review and the context analysis, a first prototype of the educational design will be made. The educational design in this research will consist of a number of music educational activities that encourage the development of executive functions.

The literature review on the UDL framework and executive functions shows that the educational design should take into account  different learning styles, backgrounds, interests and  challenges, in order to create a learning environment  that is inclusive and accessible to all students regardless of their abilities or limitations.

In order to achieve this, the design  must meet the following design criteria:

      • In the educational design, different ways of engagement are offered by:
          • Giving the students the opportunity to make individual choices so that the students have autonomy over their learning proces;
          • Displayed the goals and objectives to the students in different ways.
          • Offering different ways of feedback, both for self-reflection, teacher reflection and peer review;
          • Giving the students feedback on their efforts and the process
      • In the education, different ways of representation are offered by:
          • Displaying of information visually, auditory and digitally;
          • Different strategies to better understand information.
      • In the educational design, different ways of action and expression are offered by:
          • Giving students the choice of how they want to show that they understand what they have learned;
          • Varying requirements and resources to optimize challenges for each student;
          • Giving the students the opportunity to use different types of media;
      • In education design, all activities have both musical goals and executive goals;

      • In de educational design, all executive functions acoording to Dawson and Guare (2010) are covered.
