Fashion and identity are closely link. In most cases what you wear is a consious choice made by the individ. Fashion is an immediate expression to the world around of who you are, or who you want to be percievedn as. Even the choice of not caring, putting on clothing just for practicallity for example, is an expression of identity.

Fashion is a reflection of identity, but its also a reflection of the broader society. Fashion is also be linked to the capitalist machine. Fashion now a days can be explotation of the consumer. Fashion can be a tool for both inclusion and exclusion.

In Haute Couture each piece is designed to form a unique silhouette, tailored to the wearer’s body, making it a customized creation. Haute Couture emphasizes creative expression, often pushing the boundaries of artistry in design. These garments are typically showcased with clear attribution to the wearer, indicating that the sizing, structure, and design were all carefully crafted to fit and flatter a particular person.

In contrast, Prêt-à-Porter, or ready-to-wear, is designed for a broader audience. These garments come in standardized sizes and are intended for mass production, making them widely available to the public. The focus in Prêt-à-Porter is on practicality, offering stylish, wearable clothing for everyday use, while maintaining a high level of quality and design, but without the individualized, custom tailoring found in Haute Couture.

Fashion trends reflect sociatel changes. When womens rights were on the rise, pants for women got more and more common.

When capitalist society was on the rise teen fashion became a thing. Before this teens had pretty much worn the same as the older agegroups. Then the capitalist market realised that youths were another group one could exploit.

Maria Grazia Chuiri examplifies this in her collection for dior. "If Dior is about femininity, then it is about women. And not about what it was to be a woman fifty years ago, but to be a woman today"

Design can entail so much, dependant on the focus. When we talk about fashion design can refer to elements like silhouette, material and diffrent techniques (among more). Design refers to the prosess of creating with both form/shape and function in mind. Design could be seen as the overall product, with all the individual elements in mind, or one can refer to one particular design element.

Here in the picture we see some of diors sketch designs. In all the photos there is focus on the silhoette and fabric/print/color intended for the spesific silhouette. The detailing gets a quite big representation through the scetches. I think that shows how the small (design) details does much for the overall (design) impression.
