DIOR – a new look. (2025, 3 april). Kunstmuseum Den Haag. https://www.kunstmuseum.nl/nl/tentoonstellingen/dior-new-look

What i found out is that all gaWhat i noticed in the dior exhibition was that most garments were dresses and a few suits. It's very tradational wear i would say. Kinda like you were going back to the 70's.  It has elements of haute couture but also pret-a-porter. I feel like you could wear this to more posh events. Not everyday. It also seemed worked on for a long time. The silhouettes were all very focused around the waistline, which were tied with sometimes bows but it was very excenturated. with every design. I felt like they could also belong in a royal event.

What i noticed is how garments were either at knee length or longer. Because back in the day this was the norm, where now people reveal way more skin. Playing with a more exposure of the skin around the arms and shoulders. It was interesting to see more into this way of working because i normally focus more on maximalist designs. But i felt like they choose certain elements in the garments very well into keeping it classy but also showing their dior way of working. I also saw some shapes like wider skirts, really tight around the body and more rounded shapes.

I really enjoyed the room where they were using a flowertheme. With a softness of the floor and the presentation of the dresses, i found that very strong. I saw also lace going on. I found that it works in a complimentary way. Dior is way more detailed with their dresses then suits. I saw that they would mostly have quite basic design when with their dresses it's way more about detail and shapes and layers. I kind of wonder what their design choices are.  I also noticed about that dior is lacking with the  inclusitivity within the size of the designs. It's something i always value if i do see this difference with designers/designs.

Color wise it was all very calm colors and then out of nowhere sometimes a really vibrant color. I feel like their color scheme is quite natural colors such as black, beige, lighter pink. Also at the museum it gave a natural calm athmosphere which was nice to be around for a couple of hours. Looking at this way of working i can add this in my color library with combinations. Because i find it harder to work with more naturally based colors.

What i also take is how women centered dior is. Within the designs but also that they put the women around them in the spotlights. And more so about the women from now. Because with design you have to go with newer techniques and see who is in front of you now. Like for example take elements from the past but retwist it into modernity. Especially when i feel like life is very male centered, i can appreciate an designer that does his way of working like this. Really appreciating women how it should be.
