There are 14 words in this glossary. The first definition in quotation marks is by Cambridge online dictionary.

The second is my definition within the context of this research in dialogue with the dictionary definition.

Body

"the whole physical structure that forms a person or animal"


A body is a deeply personal of identity while simultaneously being interpreted in public. It is personal and political. A body is also flesh, tissue and the whole physicality of a human. 

Intimacy

"a situation in which you have a close friendship or sexual

relationship with someone" 


Having an experience of being close, a moment when the border of me and other is more porous.

Naked

"not covered by clothes" 


Baring and exposing oneself and one's humanity, including imperfections is to be naked. The exact amount of clothes varies. 

Sexual violence

"Sexual= relating to the activity of sex 
Violence= actions that are intended or likely to hurt people or cause damage" 

 

Any sexual activity without consent, including words, attitudes and actions. The violence can be intentional or not.

Vulnerability

"the quality of being vulnerable (= able to be easily hurt, influenced, or attacked), or something that is vulnerable"

 

The state of sharing openly and trusting oneself to the hands of others.  
Vulnerability can also be regarded as a wider phenomenon which reveals structural forms of oppression towards certain individuals or groups.  

Male gaze

"the fact of showing or watching events or looking at women from a man's point of view"


A patriarchal oppressive structure of watching, presenting and interpreting, can apply to all genders in all positions.

Empathy 

"the ability to share someone else's feelings or experiences by imagining what it would be like to be in that person's situation" 


To imagine the other person as not “other”, to be in a state of joined vulnerability. 

Victim

"someone or something that has been hurt, damaged, or killed or has suffered, either because of the actions of someone or something else, or because of illness or chance"


Someone who identifies as a victim due to a traumatic, violent or otherwise difficult experience, which may be related to an individual event, a series of events or a structural form of oppression. 

Stigma

"a strong feeling of disapproval that most people in a society have about something, especially when this is unfair 

 

An unwanted or negative perception from the outside that the person does not identify with.

Witness

"a person who sees an event happening, especially a crime or an accident "

 

A person who takes part in an event by watching or experiencing it from a distance. 

Dance

"to move the body and feet to music"


Dance is chosen physicality or way of being for the body. Moving  and music are optional.

Narrative

"a particular way of explaining or understanding events"

 

Rape

"to force someone to have sex when they are unwilling, using violence or threatening behaviour"


A form of violence involving sex without consent.

Trauma

"severe and lasting emotional shock and pain caused by an extremely upsetting experience, or a case of such shock happening 

 

An experience experienced as traumatic, which may include emotions such as shock, distress and denial.
