The Janáček Academy of Performing Arts (JAMU) is a public university with an artistic focus based in Brno, Czech Republic. It was founded in 1947 and consists of the Faculty of Music and Faculty of Theatre with more than 700 students and a vast number of successful graduates.

Artistic research is an integral part of JAMU, especially at the doctoral study level. JAMU has been developing AR as a methodologically progressive field where activities and phenomena are researched and reflected by the artists themselves, who thus mediate knowledge that is otherwise difficult to access using traditional methodologies.

Both faculties of JAMU organise international scholarly conferences and symposia, such as the biennial International Conference JAMUsica or the annual Theatre Conference JAMU.

JAMU is a member of Society for Artistic Research (SAR), European League of Institutes of the Arts (ELIA) and TAH – Centre for Innovations in Art, Technology and Humanities.
