THE FLEXIBILITY OF THE MODERN C-FLUTE

AND ITS VERSATILITY IN IMPROVISATION

1. MIND MAP

INTRODUCTION

Centrepiece to this exposition is an audio-visual proposal for the organisation of modern flute techniques and sounds in form of an audible mind map. Most names and categories are rooted in personal research and practice in improvised and contemporary music. Likewise, the objective of such an organisation – to analyse one’s rational, musical structures, to externalise and question (instrumental) obstacles and ultimately, to disclose new creative relations – seeks to be put into practice. The sound catalogue shall serve as a collection of examples thereof. Supplementary texts for said audio material and further information about the mind map itself shall be provided additionally

The format of this work has more than greatly benefitted from the supervision of Magda Mayas whose original exposition can be found on this catalogue.

This exposition acts as closing work for my Bachelor studies in Flute and Improvisation at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts.
