Maria Dybbroe is a saxophonist, clarinetist, improviser and composer, who in recent years has been a very active player as a soloist and bandleader on the more experimental part of the Nordic jazz scene. Maria holds a bachelor degree in saxophone and improvised music from The Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus. Her main ensemble is the double-trio Caktus, who in 2023 released their second record 'Flimrende' on Barefoot Records, and whose debut album was nominated to The Danish Critic’s Prize ‘Steppeulven’ as 'Composer of the Year', as well as nominated to 'Album of the Year' at Danish Music Awards Jazz in 2021. Maria plays solo concerts, she is part of the improv trio Køs, the DMA-winning band Maraton, the wind ensemble Coriolis, the sax quintet Sidechains, Copenhagen Clarinet Choir and the duos Dynastiet and Orsa. She also has a trio with pianist and free jazz legend Pat Thomas and electronic musician Andrea Giordano, as well as a duo collaboration with drummer P. O. Jørgens. Furthermore she plays in the band of Jomi Massage and Jacob Anderskovs ‘Spirit of the Hive’, in addition to several other ad- hoc constellations, and she has collaborated and played with countless prominent artists, including Pia Tafdrup, Laura Toxværd, Steve Beresford, John Edwards, Anja Jacobsen, Ståle Solberg, Bon Iver, Kasper Staub, Lars Greve, Lotte Anker, Tristan Honsinger and T.S. Høeg.
