I am a PhD from the Edinburgh College of Art (supervisors: Maria Fusco and Jane McKie). Previously, I obtained an MFA degree from the Dutch Art Institute (The Netherlands).
As a visual artist, I have developed a long-term project called The Book Lovers, in collaboration with Joanna Zielinska (head curator of the performance department in CCA Ujazdowski Castle Warsaw). Since 2011 we have been working on the creation of an artist’s novels collection and bibliography with the continuous support of MuHKA (Antwerp). We explore the different ways in which the artist’s novel is not just a literary artefact but truly a medium employed by visual artists, exactly as they employ installation, video or performance. In the last years we have organised pop-up bookstores and public programmes (De Appel, Amsterdam; Whitechapel Gallery, London); a symposium (Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw); a number of exhibitions (EFA Project Space, New York; Fabra i Coats, Barcelona; Cricoteka, Krakow); as well as a series of public conversations, discussions and reading rooms.
Recent publications include the gamebook The Wheel of Fortune (Jap Sam Books, 2014), where game and novel, my two main interests, meet in one single form; and Artist Novels (Sternberg Press and Cricoteka, 2015) co-edited with Joanna Zielinska.
I have taught courses, workshops and seminars in various international art academies: Dutch Art Institute (The Netherlands); École Cantonale d’Art du Valais (Switzerland); Edinburgh College of Art; Glasgow School of Art; Northumbria University (Newcastle); St. Lucas Academie (Antwerp); Willem de Kooning Academy (Rotterdam) and École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Lyon.
