Dr Veronika Valk-Siska is a Chartered/Principal Architect VIII and researcher at the TalTech Academy of Architecture and Urban Studies, School of Engineering and of Smart City Centre of Excellence. Dr Valk-Siska teaches courses in architectural design and supervises Master and PhD theses. She is part of a consortium for a H2020 CE-FNR-17-2020 proposal on circular bio-based cities, preparing city councils across Europe to meet challenges set out by the 2018 EU BioEconomy Strategy and the 2018 EU Circular Economy Package. The project increases the value of bio-waste based systems linking them with digital services via the production of carbon-free electricity. Dr Valk-Siska is also engaged in a partnership for H2020 FETOPEN-01-2018-2019-2020 proposal which aims to reduce energy and environmental impact of buildings, while also improving human health using a new “intelligence” in architecture.

Dr Valk-Siska has been a partner researcher in different projects in the FP7, EU H2020, Nordic and Baltic research programmes. Prior to coming to TalTech, Dr Valk-Siska established a practice based Doctoral Program in Architecture and Urban Planning at the Estonian Academy of Arts and served as the Head of the Programme. Under her leadership, the Doctoral Programme received significant funding for multi-university research alliances, including the 2013 Marie Curie Initial Training Network grant ADAPT-r, a collaboration between RMIT and six European universities. She has worked as an Expert evaluator for several Calls for proposals since 2009 by Creative Europe, FP7 and H2020 programmes. She has organized and been a Scientific Committee member of several international conferences and has been an invited keynote speaker at international conferences on architecture and urban planning. She has served as an advisor on architecture and design at the Ministry of Culture of Estonia and has helped to kick-start the Spatial Design Expert Group by the Government Office of Estonia. Member of Advisory Board of the Architects Association in Estonia. She has constructed both public and private buildings, designed interiors and landscapes. Laureate of Young Architect Award 2012, she has won dozens of prizes at various architecture and planning competitions since 2000. She was the Artistic Director of Tallinn Festival of Light in 2005-2008. Today, she is an Advisory Board Member of the Tallinn Architecture Biennale.
