Dr. Giusy Caruso is artist-researcher and professional concert pianist oriented towards the nexus of art-science-technology. Chairwoman of the CREATIE Research Group at Royal Conservatoire Antwerp and promotor, she obtained her PhD in the Arts: Music in 2018 at IPEM-UGENT in affiliation with the Royal Conservatory of Ghent. Winner of the S+T+ARTS Prize Honorary Mention 2023 together with her technological partner LWT3 Society Milano for her piano project in virtual reality 'MetaPhase', she published articles in international journals and the first book in Italian on Artistic Research in Music (La Ricerca Artistica Musicale. Linguaggi e Metodi. LIM 2022). Her research explores new forms of human-machine interaction – such as the role of gestural technology (EMG and Motion Tracking) for the creation of XR performances, the analysis of gestures and AI Musicking via Machine Learning – together with the human-to-human entrainment in co-creative projects that combines music, dance, theatre and the active participation of spectators.
