Tomi Humalisto

Finland (residence)

I am a lighting designer, teacher and researcher, living and working in Helsinki. My art making relates mostly to Finnish contemporary dance, theatre and live art performances, additionally I have made few visual art projects.

In my artistic doctorate (2012) for the Thetre Academy Helsinki, I considered alternative ways of making lighting design, by identifying established conventions and how they can be changed through art-making.

My artistic research consisted of the lighting designs for the performances titled A Weave (2003), Field – a strict morality play (2005), The Room of Shadows (2006) and The Dark Project (2006) as well as the written report Done differently, seen differently – on changes in lighting design in the performing arts.
