Ruth Mateus-Berr, ao. Univ.-Prof. Dr; female: is professor at University of Applied Arts Vienna, artist and design-researcher in Vienna. She studied at the University of Applied Arts Vienna (Art Education) and the University of Vienna (English, History), completed her PHD in 2002 and her postdoctoral qualification in design education in 2011. Her work is focused on the research of the intersection of art/design & science and she is author of several articles and publications on her research interests which include: Inter/transdisciplinary art & design, game design, art & design & textile education, social design, multi-sensual art & design transfer, pedagogy, mathematics & design & fashion & textiles, intercultural and social projects (Research projects funded by: FWF, WWTF, FFG, ZIT, EU). Presently she is Professor at the University of Applied Arts Vienna at the Institute of Art Sciences and Art Education,
Presently she is Professor at the University of Applied Arts Vienna at the Institute of Art Sciences and Art Education, 2012-2019 Head of expertise DESIGN at the Department Social Design, Institute of Art & Society, and since 2019 Head of the Center for Didactics of Art and Interdisciplinary Education.
She is member of Design Research Society, INSEA and member of the research directory of Sensory Studies, was external evaluator of P7, Marie Curie Multi-ITN project ‘TRADERS’ and reviewer of EACEA and Horizon 2020 (INKREATE). She teaches Design Research, Applied Design Thinking and holds lectures in Art, Design and Textile Education, Team & Presentation Skills. She founded the Applied Design Thinking LAB Vienna in 2007 and started interdisciplinary and intercultural projects since then. As she is a hybrid between research and the arts, her artwork focuses on interfaces between research and arts, artistic research, performance, staged photography and topics such as smart cities, society, medicine, health, games, national socialism, racism, malpractice, smell scapes, education, silver generation, dementia, collaborative artwork, a.s.o. Her artwork was presented at numerous exhibitions, workshops and publications in Austria and abroad. She lives and works in Vienna.
