Ryan Wade Ruehlen is an intermedia artist predominately working in sound, performance, and installation. Originally from Hays, Kansas, he has exhibited his work internationally; most often exhibiting with the Flinching Eye Collective which has gathered across the United States. With the FEC he participated in the 2016 MediaLive Festival at Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, 2014 Currents International New Media Arts Festival in Santa Fe as well as the Biennial of the Americas-Denver. In 2014 they were recepients of the Idea Fund Grant, a re-granting program of the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. He has worked as a gallery and independant curator, performer, organizer, sound designer, university lecturer, community radio DJ, and currently co-operates Shadowtrash Tape Group, an audio-art cassette label in Boulder Colorado. Much of his work focuses on collaborative efforts and prolonged projects which develop over the course of years, taking on a form of practice-based research. He received his BFA in studio arts from Fort Hays State University in 2007, and his MFA in studio arts at the University of Colorado-Boulder in 2013. Currently, he is working on a dissertation for his PhD in Intermedia Art, Writing, and Performance at the University of Colorado-Boulder doing deep listening research with VLF radio, drones, and geographically-situated soundscapes. He currently resides and works in the Boulder/Denver CO region.
