About this exposition

This artistic bachelor research explores how instrument-making, instrument modification and the study of music from different traditions as well as collaboration between cultures can affect a musician's artistic practice and the formation of personal artistic identity. This project also takes into consideration possible problems that might arise from working in these fields, including ecological, ethical, educational, and cultural dilemmas. This artistic research draws on data from my personal artistic approaches as a woodwind player, composer and an instrument-maker, as well as other written literature and research from these fields, and three interviews that I held during the artistic research process. This data is presented in the formats of text, audio, videos and images, with all of these elements sharing the same weight as the end result of this artistic research. The artistic outcomes of this project include new instruments, new instrument modifications, new music, and new collaborations, all of which are presented in an artistic format in a concert in May 2022.
