“Contemporary Swedish fashion design, speculative reasons for staying within the Scandinavian bubble” (last edited: 2022)

Sophia Bogstedt

About this exposition

This research and speculation came from my wondering into why the Swedish brands (some in particular) have such troubles breaking in to the international fashion scene. More trouble than say the Danish brands which has done far better in comparison. Brands that offer sustainability, brand identity and conscious smart choices regarding the future. Sounds like the ideal wouldn’t one say, then how come? Is It a mentality problem? This post aims so speculate possible reasons and to use the moment to introduce you, the reader, to some important contemporary brands of today. Final word by iconic Swedish Fashion designer and creator Gunnila Ponten who was the first designer to introduce youth fashion as concept in Sweden.
