THE MAKING OF INSPIRATION (last edited: 2022)

Hanna-Kaisa Korolainen

About this exposition

Hanna-Kaisa Korolainen defended her thesis "The Making of Inspiration - From Monet to Warhol" on 20th May 2022 at Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture, Department of Design. This text (Lectio) was part of her defence and it was presented in a spoken form, which explains some formulations of the text. DFA Teemu Mäki acted as the opponent. The thesis in question is based on an artistic research method and includes three evaluated exhibitions. It traces how consciously selected sources of inspiration influence the creative process and its outcome, here a vast number of ceramics, glass, and textile artworks. The focus is on the relationship between the practitioner and the source of inspiration, the differences between inspiration and copying, and the idea of shared authorship.
