About this exposition

This master's project delves into the contemporary phase of Norwegian Melodeon music, where a new generation adapts Hardanger Fiddle tunes to the Melodeon, with Tom Willy Rustad as an important influence. I aim to explore modern Melodeon styles from the English Melodeon master Andy Cutting (f.1969) aiming to enrich and preserve the musical heritage of Hardanger and Voss. How can folk music from the West Coast of Norway evolve through interplay between Melodeon, Hardanger Fiddle and Cittern, integrating contemporary styles? How can the Melodeon breathe new life into the old tunes? In this exposition you can follow my musical journey as a master’s student in the MAUT – Folk Music Programme at the Norwegian Academy of Music from 2023-2025.
