Anja Plonka's transdisciplinary work explores the fields of performance, choreography and film. Her works are exploratory movements.

Somatic practices open up the field of performative research to her and move the body as an archive of traumatic imprints into her artistic works. In this sense, the naked body as a site of violence is politicized and brought into social discourse as a self-empowering feminist practice.

In her search for magical and poetic transformation processes, she enters into resonance with chairs, stones, wind, water, fire, wood, sheep, bones, muscles and nerves, and examines their interrelations. Her performance works have been invited to the MAAC Gallery in Brussels, Actus Festival in Liege, Performance Lab Cologne, 567h Sharing Gallery Koppelmann Cologne, CROSSOVER Performance Festivals Kiel, Body&Freedom Festival Zurich, Festival of Naked Forms Prague, Parse: Violence – the 4th Biennal Research Conference Gothenburg and the Blicke Film Festival Bochum.

In her work breathing psoas, she creates a speculative utopian body in the coexistence of humans and Gaia. Breath and sounds open up fragmentary atmospheres of pain and transformation. The performance film won the 2021 Best Sound Image Award at the 42nd European Film Festival Göttingen.

Anja Plonka studied photography and video at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Dortmund and the École Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie in Arles, France. She completed her master's degree at the Institute for Scenic Research at the Ruhr University Bochum. She lives and works in Biel and Cologne.
