Laura F. Gibellini is a visual artist and theorist based in Madrid and New York City.
She received her PhD from Complutense University of Madrid (2010) after conducting her main research both at MoMA and The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum. She is Faculty in the MFA in Art Practice at the School of Visual Arts (NYC) and a Professor at TAI-Centro Universitario de Arte (Madrid).

 Recent projects include a Residency at The Banff Centre for the Arts and Creativity (Canada) and a Fellowshio at the Spanish Academy in Rome (Italy). Her most up-to-date collection of works will take the form of a book (Atmospheric Meditations: Before Present (338U- 710 U))to be published in 2017 by NocaPaper and Slowtrack on the occasion of a solo-show of her work in Madrid (May 2017).

  • A Place, Constructed (2011) author(s): Laura F. Gibellini published in: Journal for Artistic Research
    The exposition introduces the artist’s research into the concept of ‘place’. To do this, the weave has been conceived of as a place in itself and as a space for mapping some fundamental considerations implicit in the artist’s own practice. Layering image, moving image and text, the exposition seeks to avoid illustration, denying an explanatory relationship between the text and image or vice versa. Rather, in form and tone it seeks to make sense in a sort of delayed time — over time — little by little, as a collage of the different ideas, which form practice. The exposition is brought together as a momentary presentation, as part of an ongoing reflection, as fragments of a particular train of thought that expand, like a drawing, over time.

I find that Pamela Salen’s exposition ‘The Photogram as a Domestic Diary‘ has improved greatly in terms of maturity, complexity and organization and I think the process of synthesising and rewriting has been very positive and beneficial. Her personal take and original exploration of the notions of memory and home and how they inform each other and relate to one another is very compelling. Her use of the photogram as a medium to register memory and the passage of time is poetic and sensual and I think that the combination of texts, research, images and videos create a worth reading exposition.
