Sevilya Hendrickx was born in Tashkent (USSR) in a musical family and got raised with a mixture of different cultures from her mothers’ and fathers’ side. Both classical and folk music runs in her blood. At the age of five, her parents sent her to music school where she – against the advice to play piano – started to learn to play the violin. Already from this young age Sevilya knew she would like to become a professional musician, so when she was older she studied at the Gnesin College and Academy, Moscow. In her violin career she played several solo concertos with symphony orchestra and toured with several chamber music ensembles.

After her study, Sevilya felt she wanted to explore more and started of playing the viola. What initially was meant to be only temporary became a part of her life when she felt in love with the unique qualities a viola can offer. Together with the great teachings of her professor Mikhail Zemtsov, Sevilya knew she wanted to stay here in Holland to explore the possibilities of the viola as a solo instrument. Last summer she finished her Bachelor Cum Laude at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and currently follows the Orchestra Master of KonCon with the Residentie Orkest.
