Born in Switzerland with Italian origins, Isabella Mercuri started playing recorder at an early age with Edwige Callmar and Andel Strube at the music school of Luzern (CH), where she also followed piano lessons.

She then moved to Zürich (CH) to study with Kees Boeke as well as with Matthias Weilenmann and completed her Bachelor of Arts in Music at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste in June 2013.

Since September 2013 she is continuing her studies at the Koninklijk Conservatorium in The Hague in the class of Daniël Brüggen in order to get a Master diploma, where she also started to study the baroque oboe with Frank de Bruine.

Further interesting inputs were given to her in masterclasses with Peter Holtslag, Carsten Eckert and Sébastien Marq as well as by playing a concert with Han Tol.

 

Isabella Mercuri is active as a recorder teacher for children as well as for adults and plays in different kinds of ensembles. She has played with the Orchestra of the Hochschule Luzern, the orchestra of the Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag, the Leids Barok Ensemble and regularly performs in different chamber music settings in the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Serbia and Spain. Since 2014 she is a member of the Ensemble Consort Mirabile based in The Hague.

Very interested also in contemporary music and improvisation she had the possibility to play at the WIM (Werkstatt für improvisierte Musik, Zürich) and to perform in Instant Muve meets Instant Composing, a show combining improvised music and improvised dance.

Isabella Mercuri werd geboren in Zwitserland maar heeft Italiaanse wortels. Van Edwige Callmar en Andel Strube kreeg zij al op jonge leeftijd blokfluitlessen op de muziekschool van Luzern, waar ze ook piano leerde spelen.

Later studeerde ze in Zürich bij Kees Boeke en Matthias Weilenmann. Ze behaalde haar Bachelor of Arts in Music op de Zürcher Hochschule der Künste in juni 2013.

Sinds september 2013 zet ze haar studie voort aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium te Den Haag in de klas van Daniël Brüggen waar ze haar Master-diploma hoopt te behalen.

In Den Haag is ze ook begonnen aan een studie barokhobo bij Frank de Bruine.

Zij volgde masterclasses bij Peter Holtslag, Carsten Eckert en Sébastien Marq en had de mogelijkheid een concert met Han Tol te spelen.

 

Isabella Mercuri geeft blokfluitles aan kinderen en volwassenen en speelt regelmatig in verschillende ensembles. Zij speelde in het orkest van de Hochschule Luzern, in het orkest van het Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag en met het Leids Barok Ensemble. Sinds 2014 is zij lid van het Ensemble Consort Mirabile in Den Haag.

Haar interesse gaat ook uit naar hedendaagse muziek en improvisatie. Zij spelde in de WIM (Werkstatt für improvisierte Musik, Zürich) en nam deel aan Instant Muve meets Instant Composing, een voorstelling waarin geïmproviseerde muziek en dansimprovisaties werden gecombineerd.

Summary of Results The collection of sources from the beginning of the sixteenth century until the middle of the eighteenth century showed that the indications given by the authors are often very similar to each other, although being written in a completely different time and environment. The following three main ideas appear in several treatises and were therefore examined more in detail: - Imitation of the human voice or of a specific instrument - Following a speech and using the means of rhetoric - Underlying instrumental music with text The practical application of those three ideas led to an enrichment of my palette of sound colours, to an improvement in making clear phrasings and gave me some inspiration to find the appropriate affections to communicate to the listeners. This research paper and the included collection of sources might also be a starting point for further research exploring for instance more in detail one of the three main ideas mentioned above.
