  • Expositionality. Disturbing Facts (online lecture, Coventry, 10/06/2021) Expositionality. Disturbing facts. There is a widespread belief in order: first you do something and then you articulate it. However, what if articulations change the very thing they are meant to articulate? Could those changes rather than work against practice not be embraced and utilized to further what we do, say and understand? What are the institutional implications of this approach? – This lecture will introduce the notion of ‘expositionality’ as it was developed in the context of the Journal for Artistic Research (JAR) and the Research Catalogue (RC). I will attempt to make a case for artistic research not through definitions of what it is or should be but through the modes of articulation that it affords, which link aesthetic with epistemic concerns. Based on this, I will suggest that what goes by the name of ‘artistic research’ cannot (yet) be resolved with the existing institutional structures. Online keynote lecture 'Practice Research.
