Hadavar (The Word) Version II – For Countertenor, Piano, Resonant Instruments and Live Electronics (2010-2011) Premiered at the Fromm Concerts at Harvard University, Cambridge, USA on April 2, 2011. The creation of HaDavar (The Word) was supported by grants from the Experimentalstudio in Freiburg, Germany and the Canada Council. This composition employs elements of digital convolution in coordination with resonant instruments as well as melodic and phonetic aspects of Jewish and Islamic chant, which were analyzed as part of the SSHRC Grant “Computational Ethnomusicology.” For this composition I was awarded the Gigahertz Production Prize from the Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe, Germany.
