Name:  Remembrance under construction

Source: Printed photos of various family members in both color and black and white taken between 1963 and 1985

Description: A fragile and fragmented disclosure of a memory. Carefully curated pictures, framed by tearing of the paper surface.

Name: Places I've never been

Source: Letter correspondence between my grandmother and grandfather between 1978 and 1990

Description: I found letters of my grandparents writing each other. They lived in seperate places within the Netherlands, South-Africa and the South of France. Even though I've never visited these places, I have a memory of them. I reconstructed this memory by means of video and models.

Name: The presence of the past

Source: Black and white interior photos of my grandparents' house in Amsterdam printed (1961)

Description: In an earlier experiment with mapping the movement of light I realised how a space can constantly change, but the way the light travels through this space will always remain the same. Wondering how I could bring the past and the present together spatially, I placed the pictures in my own environment, waiting for the light to resemble the light as seen in the black and white photo. In this way I try to mediate a new relationship with the past and present.
