Heart research on stage and on all levels: Philosophy On Stage #6. Notebook of the Heart is a three-day research lab between art and philosophy in which the audience is invited to take part in our cross-cultural research on the heart. Researchers from India, Europe, and North America, as well as from the different fields of art, philosophy, cardiology, and quantum physics, bring their expertise on the pulsating realities of the heart to the stage of brut nordwest and thus convey a sense and a shared feeling for rhythmically vibrating matter: from the pulse of the human heart, through cosmic heartbeats, to the pulse of the Earth, with which all living beings attune themselves.
By the way: the English word accordance derives from the Latin ad-cor/dia and literally means “bringing hearts together.” Isn’t that a beautiful wording? This is how it should be: a heartfelt welcome!
The event begins on the first evening with the recording of heartbeats from the audience as a basis for the lecture-performances that follow. On the next two days, the panel begins each morning with bodywork and readings from the participants’ personal “heart notebooks.” After lunch, two lecture-performances follow, as well as a speakers’ corner, where voices from the audience are also invited to take the floor. In the evenings, performances take place, and there are also permanent installations that were developed within the framework of the multi-year research project Art in Philosophy. Philosophy in the Arts.
The festival concludes with music, a film—Notebook of the Heart—and a keynote lecture by Debashish Banerji, Professor of Indian Philosophy, on the intercultural dimension of the heart. Philosophy in the Arts”, sponsored by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF): Grant Doi 10.55776/AR822.
