                         .:LINGUISTICS & DEFINITION // CONCENTRIC CYCLES/CIRCLES:.

  • concentric circles are circles, arcs, or other shapes which share the same centre
  • In geometry, two or more objects are said to be concentric when they share the same center.
  • defined as two or more circles with a common center.
  • The ripples formed by dropping a small object into still water naturally form an expanding system of concentric circles. Evenly spaced circles on the targets used in target archery or similar sports provide another familiar example of concentric circles.
  • The larger often completely surrounding the smaller.
  • Concentric describes something, like circles, that have a common center
  • Concentric is from the latin word concentric, - from com (“together”) plus centrum (“center” or “circle”). So, concentric things have a center in common.

                            .:LINGUISTICS & DEFINITION: CIRCULATION/CIRCUIT/CURRENT:.

CIRCULATION

  • flow
  • orderly movement through a circuit
  • the movement of blood around the body (the movement of blood through the vessels of the body that is induced by the pumping action of the heart and serves to distribute nutrients and oxygen to and remove waste products from all parts of the body)
  • passage or transmission from place to place

CIRCUIT

  • a boundary around an enclosed space
  • a moving or revolving around
  • the complete path of a current

CURRENT

- the part of a fluid body (such as air or water) moving continuously in a certain direction

- movement in a particular direction

- the swiftest part of a stream

- a tidal or nontidal movement of lake or ocean water

- flow marked by force or strength

- a tendency or course of events that is usually the result of an interplay of forces(currents of public opinion)

- a prevailing mood

- a flow of electric charge (also : the rate of such flow)

- implies a clearly defined but not necessarily unalterable course.

                                                                        INTRODUCTION

The CYCLE & the CIRCULATION are vast symbols with a tremendous body of anthropological knowledge and manifests a wide association pool in diverse cultural contexts. They are sacred symbols and describe aspects which are part of natural processes and creation itself. There are so many gateways one can take, so many different positions and perspectives to obtain, so much inspiration to acquire from this phenomenon.
Over and over they orbit into our experience, spanning from scientific- to mystical language, their interpretation & discovery.

My intention with this reflective text and documentation is to share my own explorative currents, my own circulations with you, specifically how it changed my perspective on the research process per se and how it continually inspires me to drop into the present moment and to leave behind the linearity of time.

                                          CONCENTRIC RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Viewing the investigative phase as a cycle

During this research, each working methods and phase, that I came across, picked up, investigated and left again, represents a cycle. A potential for endless discovery through repeating the circulation around the object of focus & study. It therefore carries the potential for an ongoing exploration of new aspects, shapes and patterns of meaning, whenever I choose to orbit my attention around a new, or already established cycle. This cyclic nature as a perspective, - so to view each investigative phase as a cycle rather than a linear methodology in time and space, - tremendously helped me to look at my artistic research in a curious way full of potential, instead of adopting a linear-, output based thinking lens, constantly evaluating the process after each phase.
The circulation as an overarching research methodology defines each focus point, each observation as an infinite pathway of potential discovery. This way of looking at my ongoing process, especially within the last two years, helped me enormously to bring more softness into my evaluation process, as well as the validation of my artistic practice.

Throughout this research, I begun to notice & observe my own creative nature as mutable. Mutability, this quality of „being changeable“ describes a non linear approach to creation. Instead of moving from A to B, - from the first to the second to the third point & so on, it moves freely between the numbers. Until, eventually, a final synthesis occurs. Even upon writing this reflective text, I recognize my creative focus as changing, jumping from paragraph to paragraph in a dynamic way, circulating between sections.

In contrast to the mode of operation and research as linear causality in which I commit to a logical order of following phases, I can choose to pick up various investigative methodologies and surrender to a nonlinear approach of research that is moving in cycles rather than in a linear time-based reflection.
Even though I listed the investigative cycles in a chronological and sequential order for you to observe my linear process, the actual thinking and perception of mine resided in a cyclic pattern, whereby I was moving my attention and focus from one cycle to another in a freely and dynamic manner, knowing that when I left a certain methodology & working approach, I could pick it up at any time, circulating in it, expanding and further exploring deeper meaning and characteristics within that particular working method.
On the contrary, when I fell into a linear perceived researching process, I noticed a tremendous amount of certain negative thought patterns that were specifically induced through modern capitalistic output-based thinking, whereby I evaluated the research process for achievements after each phase and end of quarter.

CONCENTRIC CIRCLES & CYCLES are circles, cycles and circulating structures which share the same coexisting centre, a gravitational core & midpoint that is creating a narrative through all circulating ripples. Each Cycle represents a creative potential and through the process of orbiting in concentric circles, i.e moving around with various working methods, contextual placements, considerations and diverse circulating methodologies, with the same underlying core object of study, I surrender to the process of being guided by my intuition and dynamic curiosity. I consistently change my orbit, circulating and jumping between various artistic concepts and working methods.
From this perspective each individual cycle all circulate around the same coaxial center, - my individual and personal experience and manifestation of life.

Like each planet has it’s on gravitational field and astral bodies that are orbiting around them, all planets in the solar system orbiting around the sun. Like the solar system, the overarching framework of my research describes a concentric system.
