Introduction

Pornography is essentially a discourse—a way of communicating, a way of talking about sex, and expressing our sexual desires. In recent years, the evolving view of pornographic content has begun narrowing toward a need and appetite for content that, at its best, reflects reality.

Pornography, as it is commonly known through its easy accessibility, is merely a corporate manifestation of patriarchy with significant monetary potential. I dedicate one section of this work to the forms of pornography and its defining characteristics. In this section, I primarily aim to outline the aesthetic and sensory attributes deliberately utilised in mainstream pornography, which over time have become markers of stereotypical behaviour and are often perceived as gender discrimination. A critical aspect of this section is the elements of stereotyping and the intentional stimulation through sexual imagery that pornography conveys, ultimately leading to repeated satisfaction of the human mind. I explore the intentions of the pornographic industry as reflected in the content of its productions, specific activities, and the predetermined performances of actors. These features are tied to many reasons behind the emergence of ethical pornography, which operates on a fundamentally different level. Through a detailed description of stereotypical traits, I aim to highlight the qualities of ethical pornography, which must be imagined as a contrast to every mentioned characteristic of mainstream pornography.

This work is primarily based on my research into alternative approaches to consuming pornography, aiming to capture the reality of sex and sexuality as expressed from a more female-oriented perspective. This remains a rare approach that encompasses many aspects of what ethical production should ideally look like. Since this is not about defining ethicality in the same way as in other fields but involves a wide range of these characteristics, I have compiled a guide consisting of six main themes that describe the production, filming, and distribution values of such content. These include respect and approach, authenticity and freedom of expression, diversity, compensation, and feedback. The most crucial aspect of creating such content is the actors themselves, who contribute to the creation of the material and are given space to share their personal priorities. This enables them to engage more meaningfully, genuinely experience moments of sexual arousal, and thus achieve true climax.

“It represents a very conscious way of watching and producing pornography.”
