As previously described, the aim of my research is to understand to what extent Song can become an act of restoration for a damaged planet. I am interested in how hope generates restoration and vice-versa, especially in the context of Sonic Geographies of Hope. I look at this process on two different levels: at a personal level through Song composition, and on a collective level through performance. The research questions that will address these aims are:
1. How can Song become an act of restoration for a damaged planet?
2. How can the personal or collective experience of grief, curiosity, and hope be affected by Song?
3. To what extent can a Song educate hope?
1.3 Structure of written work
What follows is a review of previous literature and studies around the two main areas of research: 1) Hope and 2) Ecosystemic Thinking.
Then I will introduce you to the conceptual framework and research design, including the framework of Sonic Geographies of Hope. I will include the interviews with Song composers and activists, and how this artistic research inspired my Song composition process for my final Global Music Bachelor Concert, Geographies of Hope. In the final sections, I will analyze the key findings of my research and share final conclusions, and questions for future research.
