I take a ceramic vase into my hand. I automatically label it as a vase, even though its functionality could be questioned. It has no bottom. I lay it on its side. In that moment, I notice its structure rather than its function. I touch it and focus instead on its resonance and depth. Is this an interaction? Does it tell me something specific, or is it only its unexpected position that provokes the desire to search for the hidden thought of the author? What is concealed in a bottom without a bottom? What does the object itself expect the user to do with it? Who is the user? To whom is this object addressed? Does it need a consumer – a recipient?  By shifting its orientation upside down, have the boundaries between applied and fine art been erased?

This exposition invites you to explore a moodboard-like structure leading to five segments of the research. You can navigate the structure by clicking on selected titles or images.

Is All Art a Translation,
a Metaphor of Something Else?
