15´ collective experiencing of sand body through moving exercise and automatic drawing exercise (Scheveningen, Den Haag, NL, 13.11. 2025) with Romana Klementis and Eve Rhodes.
Romana is moving with external parts - textile sand catchers - together with the sand and Eve is drawing their interaction. Smooth shapes appear in her drawing. We learn from that. The movement is smooth when we look and intra-act with the whole sand body. Where will this take us?
15´ collective experiencing of sand body through standing exercise (Scheveningen, Den Haag, NL, 13.11. 2025) with Romana Klementis
We stand with the sand. Blindfolded we stand. We stand with the sand. Experiencing the environment which they co-create. The environment which they co-form and co-curate. The environment where they move. Blindfolded we stand and listen and feel the coldness of strong north wind which carries the drifting grains. However we do not move. We feel. We stand with the sand.
240´ collective experiencing of sand body (Scheveningen, Den Haag, NL, 13.11. 2025) with Romana Klementis and Eve Rhodes
During this site-specific exploration we were trying to tune in with the body of sand through developed exercises for deep focus and deep listening, which we have previously individually explored at Terschelling.
60´ individual experiencing of sand body (Scheveningen, Den Haag, NL, 29.09. 2025)
The very first site-specific exploration on possible ways to starting a conversation with grains of sand.
How can we come closer together?
How can we relate?
How can we listen deeply?
How can we choose our focus?
What are the ways?
What can we learn?
How can we examine?
How can we feel and sense?
How can we tune in?
How can we document?
How can we observe?
How can we stay in conversation?
Engaged
And
Everlasting
15´ collective experiencing of sand body through voicing exercise and automatic drawing exercise (Scheveningen, Den Haag, NL, 13.11. 2025) with Eve Rhodes.
Eve is vocally co-creating the sound-scape of the environment where we explore. We are sensing drawing the sound-scape they create. Where will this take us?
4 day site-specific residency stay (Terschelling, NL, 06.10. - 09.10. 2025)
During these four days we were conducting individual site--specific exercises in order to experience together with local sand at the beach and sand dunes of Hoorn and Midsland near by the North sea. We have arrived to this location with a question in mind: What is the sound of sand? What does it narrate? When can we hear sand? In what encounters is the body or the individual audible? How does it sound? Could sand talk and if so, what would they say? Is their knowledge hearable for us?
Our body has undergone various exercises for finding strategies to enable focus. Through deep focus to deep listening. These exercises consisted from meditation with the sand, observing the sand and drawing the observed grains as well as bigger bodies, listening to the sand, writing with the sand, moving with the sand, standing with the sand, and observing the grains of sand under a microscope.
Our body has undergone these exercises with an aim to embody sand, with an aim to find sandhood within us and use explored methodologies in further research with other bodies.
We have found our fascination in drifting sand - the sound and movement of this specific quality of sand. Which only appears in certain, windy, environments.
The poetic intra-action of sand and other glocal elements of given environment created an immersion. I started to focus on the qualities of the sand movement and sand sound.
We have also further explored and developed documentation strategies: photo documentation, video documentation, automatic writing, drawing and visual scoring.
15´ collective experiencing of sand body through voicing exercise and moving with the sand exercise (Scheveningen, Den Haag, NL, 13.11. 2025) with Eve Rhodes and Romana Klementis.
Eve is vocally co-creating the sound-scape of the environment where we explore and simultaneously reacts to the movements that Romana is creating with her body in conversation with the sand. We are drawing their site-specific movement-sound-sand conversation. Where will this take us?
15´ collective experiencing of sand body through moving with exercise (Scheveningen, Den Haag, NL, 13.11. 2025) with Romana Klementis
We move with the sand. Blindfolded we move. We move with the sand. Experiencing the environment which they co-create. The environment which they co-form and co-curate. The environment where they move. Blindfolded we move and listen and touch and feel the coldness of strong north wind which carries the drifting grains. We feel them hitting our faces when coming closer to the surface. However we do not leave. We stay. We feel. We move with the sand.
