Public space is defined as “ an area or place that is open and accessible to all people,
regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, age, or socio-economic level. These are public gathering
spaces such as plazas, squares and parks”.
Public spaces that bring together a great diversity of people are therefore
designed as “zero friction” spaces, but when in use, people will experience friction.
This research paper focuses on how one constructs territories within the public realm and how this
can both foster participation for those who can identify themselves with the activities
within the territory and others who do not -to depart from a space. This creates fear
tendencies against the unknown and in order to maintain a certain behavioral control,
objects are being modified, removed and designed to prevent certain behaviors and
user groups from territorializing certain spaces from happening.
One territorial action is found in the action of skateboarding. Skateboarders do not only foresee
opportunities for action through the use of affordances within the public realm, but also
territorialize the space through extractions, additions, and public interactions for their action to
be possible. Skateboarding might be considered an action that excludes certain user groups from using the public space if territorialized by the skating community. Yet, on the contrary, skateboarders see opportunities for action within the public realm through affordances that might not be obvious to
the naked eye and therefore creates another level of interaction and encounters which may alter
the behavioral corollary within the space.
If skateboarders see the user value of public space through affordances and claim elements
within the space through action, does their territorialization of the space actually negatively
impact the space? Or do they introduce a new user value of the space that furthers behavioral actions and introduces new encounters?
Therefore, this research paper reflects on how a skateboarder's perspective of the public realm criticizes how we use space and reveal new design potentials for a multifunctional public space.
Fata Morgana. An Essay Journey.

”Fata Morgana. An Essay Journey” explores the optical phenomenon of the Fata Morgana and its mythical namesake, Morgain Le Fay, as a figure of thought to explore transcultural and transgeographical relationships between landscape and identity. Conceived as an essay journey with artistic interventions, Fata Morgana argues for rethinking imagined geographies against the territorial bigotry prevalent in Europe and the world, against essentialist ideas of singular or linear origins. Instead, Körschkes uses Fata Morgana as a motif, myth and method for artistic research, employing its ephemerality and “diffuse occurrences” to relocate places into other places, narratives onto other narratives, and thus brings together different spatialities, temporalities and identities into brieftopian co-existence.
Biopoéticas: convergencias artísticas interespecie

En la propuesta se reflexiona sobre las implicancias de concebir obras artísticas en conjunto con seres vivientes no-humanxs y las problemáticas y particularidades que esto conlleva. Asimismo, se propone la terminología de biopoética como alternativa nominal al concepto antropocéntrico y problemático del bioarte desde una concepción más locativa y contextual. Se pretende visualizar las metodologías y los accionares de la materia viva desde el arte contemporáneo latinoamericano y repensar tanto las prácticas como los modos de exhibición.

The proposal reflects on the implications of conceiving artistic works in conjunction with non-human living beings, as well as the problems and particularities that this entails. It proposes the biopoetics terminology as a nominal alternative to the anthropocentric and problematic concept of bioart from a more locative and contextual conception. It is intended to visualize methodologies and actions of living matter from contemporary Latin American art rethinking both practices and modes of exhibition.
Walking As Practice WAP23

WALKING AS PRACTICE
WAP23 was a process-based residency during September-November 2023, where artists using walking as a method delved into each others’ knowledges and things they encountered together at BKN, the Northern Stockholm Archipelago in Sweden. Fieldworks, share sessions and seminars were created jointly to locate and entangle structures, narratives and themes for walking. The residency formed a transformative, dynamic space for art that engaged with life and nature towards critical and poetic explorations, influenced by the immediate surroundings: the forest, lakes, sea and people living in the rural area. Processing how walking is interlocked in our artistic practices, this exposition represents a gathering of texts, visuals and audio from the walking art residency.
The selected artists contributed with interdisciplinary practices, primarily drawing, photography, video, performance and dance. They worked both individually, in spontaneous constellations and in group sessions. The dissemination of the program took place in share sessions upon arrival of new artists - including dinners, open studios, walks, workshops etc. In addition, as the program unfolded, each artist developed their own exposition.
