”Fata Morgana. An Essay Journey” explores the optical phenomenon of the Fata Morgana and its mythical namesake, Morgain Le Fay, as a figure of thought to explore transcultural and transgeographical relationships between landscape and identity. Conceived as an essay journey with artistic interventions, Fata Morgana argues for rethinking imagined geographies against the territorial bigotry prevalent in Europe and the world, against essentialist ideas of singular or linear origins. Instead, Körschkes uses Fata Morgana as a motif, myth and method for artistic research, employing its ephemerality and “diffuse occurrences” to relocate places into other places, narratives onto other narratives, and thus brings together different spatialities, temporalities and identities into brieftopian co-existence.

”Fata Morgana. En essäresa” undersöker det optiska fenomenet Fata Morgana och dess mytiska namne, Morgain Le Fay, som en tankefigur för att belysa transkulturella och transgeografiska relationer mellan landskap och identitet. Verket är en essäresa med konstnärliga interventioner och argumenterar för att ompröva föreställda geografier i motsats till den territoriella trångsynthet som präglar Europa och världen, samt mot essentialistiska idéer om enhetliga eller linjära ursprung. Genom att använda Fata Morgana som motiv, myt och metod för konstnärlig forskning tar Körschkes tillvara på dess flyktighet och ”diffusa företeelser” för att förskjuta platser till andra platser, berättelser till andra berättelser, och därmed sammanföra olika rumsligheter, temporaliteter och identiteter i en kortvarig ”brieftopisk” samexistens.
