Gareth is a children’s author, teacher and postgraduate researcher in immersive storytelling. He has twenty years' experience using fiction, creative writing and drama to engage young people in the classroom and has worked as a content developer for Pearson Education’s digital ActiveLearn platform. His novels for children have won the Bath Children’s Novel award and been longlisted for the Times Chicken House Prize. He researches how theatre and reading engagement can be blended for children in ways that bridge their public and private spheres, giving them the tools to cocreate their own sustained and transformative social fictions. He is based at the University of Bristol (Theatre Department), co-supervised at Bath Spa University (Centre for Cultural and Creative Industries) and Cardiff University (School of English, Communication and Philosophy), funded by the South West and Wales Doctoral Training Partnership.
