The guitar amplifier plays an elementary but essential role in the instrument's history. It is only because of its appearance that the guitar is able to join the jazz ensemble format and participate with protagonism not only in its rhythm-section function but also as a soloist. The creation of the amplifier also redefines the guitar tone. It opens a world of possibilities explored by the early jazz guitarists to make the instrument blend with the other acoustic instruments of jazz. To understand the role of the amplifier in the evolution of music it is essential to comprehend how the amplifier was brought into jazz, how the first amplifiers sounded, and what impact they had on the role of the guitar as a lead instrument
