Timo Tähkänen is a Finnish visual and drag artist, as well as a doctoral researcher (since 2023) at the Academy of Fine Arts, University of the Arts Helsinki. Their research explores how listening within a queer body influences their artistic practice. At the core of their research is the relationship between queer/bucking listening and the processes of art-making and scholarly reflection. They examine how artworks can resonate with the personal experiences of their creator and how they can create space for listening, affect, and emotions—including queer emotions. Tähkänen obtained an MA in Fine Arts from the Academy of Fine Arts, Finland, in 2014 and graduated as Bachelor of Culture and Arts from the South Karelia University of Applied Sciences in 2007. After that, they have held several solo and group exhibitions and worked as a visiting teacher at the University of the Arts and LAB University of Applied Sciences. Their artistic research is supported by the Kone Foundation.
