Jenny Brown

My work stakes out claims for both functional and aesthetic forms in a sophisticated multimedia practice that combines video, film, photography and installation, often with simple means and modes of expression. The work is animated through complex political situations that intertwine these two areas. My main aim is to undertake better searching, production and engagement within existing frameworks of culture and society to provide a more concrete way to activate art within the contours of formal systems and institutions in the world.

Over the past twenty-five years I have worked in training and welfare (technical colleges, community organisations and universities), arts and culture (local government, regional roles and statewide strategies), and national broadcasting regulation. I am the Earth Arts Curator for the Australian Earth Laws Alliance and I hold a PhD in Fine Art from the University of Sydney.
