Julija Jonas is a photographer who works with animation, sound, and interventions in public space. Her work draws on her own recollections as well as current social issues, such as ecological disasters or forced migration. Conceptual thinking intertwines in her practice with a poetic vision and an engaged approach. Her visual outputs—most often photographs, objects, or installations—tend to be minimalist and restrained. In addition to analog and digital photography, her work also shows an interest in older methods of image-making, such as the camera obscura or hand-drawn animation.
