Daniel Malpica is a Mexican writer, graphic designer and multmedia artist based in Helsinki since 2013. He is author of the poetry books Paréntesis (RDLPS, 2007), Marduk: Senectus Signum (Bakcheia, 2009) and Ex-Aether (Molinos de, 2012). His latest work Se escribe con X (Written with X) received a grant from the Arts Promotion Centre Finland in 2014. Malpica's work combines literature and design and it has been partially translated into English, Finnish, Swedish, German and Catalan. In 2016, he was granted by the Finnish Lietrature Exchange to translate and publish into Spanish the work of Sámi poet Niillas Holmberg.
As multimedia artist Malpica has curated and designed more than a dozen of experimental literary events on a European and Mexican scale for places such as The Contemporary Art Museum Kiasma (FI), Helsinki Music Centre (FI), Lettrétage Lit House Berlin (DE), Nordisk Sprogfest (DK), Helsinki Book Fair (FI), Vuotalo Concert Hall (FI), Casa del Lago UNAM (MX) and more.
Between 20I5-17, Malpica was co-coordinator, producer and designer of Sivuvalo project which received in 2017 Nuori Voima’s literary prize, Helsinki. Between 2011 and 2014, he was co-founder, editor-in-chief, and designer of [Radiador] Magazine.
Malpica is currently CEO of 'Manuke Lit, Media Art & Design', vicechair of Globe Art Point in Helsinki, and his project Mutanttikieltä, which explores literature, speech syntesis and translation processes, received Kone Foundation’s grant of arts in 2018.
