The Danish philosopher and cultural analyst Søren Kjørup is research advisor for staff and management at Bergen National Academy of the Arts. Previously he was for many years professor of the history and theory of the humanities at Roskilde University in Denmark. He is known internationally for his contributions to the philosophy of pictorial languages (e.g. "Pictorial Speech Acts", in Erkenntniss, 1978), and his very early, distinctive version of the institutional theory of art (e.g. "Art Broadly and Wholly Conceived" in Aagaard-Mogensen(ed.), Culture and Art: An Anthology, 1976). Within the field of artistic research Kjørup has written e.g. "Another Way of Knowing: Baumgarten, Aesthetics, and the Concept of Sensuous Cognition" (Sensuous Knowledge 1, Bergen National Academy of the Arts, 2006) and "Pleading for Plurality" (in Biggs & Karlsson (eds.), The Routledge Companion to Research in the Arts, 2010).
